Shipping Assistant
Our client a Physical Trading Company, who trade, distribute and manufacture metals, metal products and chemicals in various countries worldwide. This International company specialises in the sale of non–ferrous commodity metals worldwide and primarily trades Tin, Copper, Secondary Aluminium, Lead, Silicon, Nickel and minor metals such as Antimony and Tungsten.
We are looking for a Shipping Assistant to work within a close-knit team comprises Traders, Shippers and Accounts. This Shipping Assistant candidate will join a small team of experienced shippers.
The company is based in London EC2 and the standard working hours are 0830 to 1630 with an hour for lunch. After completion of probationary period, and fully trained option available for hybrid working with 2 days WFH if preferred.
Responsibilities and duties
- To monitor the status of different cargos whilst the goods are in transit.
- To issue and raise contracts for the Traders, issue pricing letters, packing lists, invoices, certificates of origin and send to customers.
- To arrange payments to suppliers, warehouses, freight forwarders.
- To input shipping and trading data into the trading system.
- To liaise on the telephone and via email with customers, warehouses and freight forwarders.
- General administration support and ad hoc duties.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- A high attention to detail is essential – candidates will need to demonstrate accuracy, numeracy and proof-reading skills.
- The ability to accurately input volumes of detailed data into complex accounting and trading systems.
- Strong communication skills both oral and written in terms of clarity and the ability to manage customer expectations.
- Good all-round knowledge of and competency in MS Office, particularly Word and Excel.
- A team player who can demonstrate flexibility and willingness to take on additional tasks.
- Comfortable with the responsibility of working to deadlines and meeting customers’ requirements.
- GCSE Maths and English are essential – skills tests will be issued at interview.
- Fluent in Spanish would be beneficial but not essential.
